A Bittersweet Ending

In exactly 20 days, we will all be presenting our skills learned over the 5 months to the public.  It’s not that I’ve never noticed this before, but time is zipping by quickly.   In a little less than two months, my grade 10 year is coming to an end.  Talons is coming to an end.  With this being my last big project in Talons, there is a sense of disappointment because next year, I won’t have anything to hope for.  When I think about a new idea for my Eminent Person Study or In-Depth, I will just have to tuck it away because there is no next time.

Maybe the fact that I’m leaving this program in a mere weeks, thoughts have been running in my head that usually don’t.  We have been given many resources in which ordinary classes are not provided with: science trips to BCIT Woodlot and other locations, english trips to Bard on the Beach…all these fieldtrips planned out as a visual and hands-on aid for our lessons in class.  Talons had also changed my viewpoint and expectations for myself: Planning 10, a course which many of my peers mark as useless, plays an important role in Talons in helping us know more about ourselves.  It makes us think, and plan our futures.  Sure, I’ve thought about what I wanted to be when grow-up, but my goals have never been so concise and laid out.  This program had given me so much support, that next year, when I blend back into “normal” class, I have to go back to the square one.  Like what the description for Talons claims, this program is enriching – experiencing many “mission impossibles”.  The valuable opportunities and experiences I gained within these two years: organizing an entire trip (students only), jumping into a freezing ocean, biking to Victoria, not showering for 5 days, studying and “being” a life rolemodel, and many more.  All unforgettable memories.

This all dwindles down to the big, end-of-the-year, project – In-depth.  For my learning center, there will be a poster board with information regarding driving safety and preparing for the driving test.  I will have my laptop out so that guests could try taking a practice driving test.  There will also be a driving demonstration and I will be showing people what they should do before starting the car.  This would be a good review for most because for most experienced drivers, driving is such routinely task, that they often forget simple details such as adjusting the mirrors.  For younger audience members, they could have a little fun trying out the quizzes.

I feel that the best way for my to showcase my learning is to communicate with my audience members and provide them with visual demonstration.  Because I should have a good understanding of my In-depth, I could help or clear up some questions people have about driving.  Conversing with others and answering questions will serve as a beneficial tool to display my understanding of driving.  This could also lead to a more engaging interactive center.

Well folks, sadly, this will be my last In-Depth update.  Looking forward to my final, amazing (yet disheartening) In-Depth Night!
